June chuggin’

Okay, well Bloglovin’ turned out to be a bust! It won’t link this blog to my profile on there, support hasn’t acknowledged my ticket, and when I go to certain pages on the site it tells me that page doesn’t exist anymore – until I refresh and then it’s there. Sounds broken as all heck to me! I’ll continue to look for easier ways to follow non-Wordpress and Blogger blogs, but such is life online I guess.

Twitch meanwhile… well, I’ve been enjoying myself. My viewer count is abysmal but I also haven’t mentioned that I’m streaming anywhere besides here. Life lessons in online promotion/marketing! Start with friends first. Turns out the organic stragglers method on Twitch has a very low success rate. I’ll keep embarrassing myself talking to no one though, because let’s be honest I’ll be yelling at my screen playing games anyway. So at least it’s Content. Or something. I don’t know. What I do know is I’ve gotten further in both games I’ve streamed so far doing this so… it works!

When it comes to other media… I’ve fallen off on books still, and I’m almost done with the movie backlog I’d made. I added a bunch of older movies I never saw that aren’t as essential to my desires to see but might be culturally informative to my Justwatch watchlist and now my list is back up to 71! But if I’m only going off movies I can see on my services or can rent currently, I’m at 28. So that’s doable in a month for me. And then I can focus more on TV shows, which is currently at 48.

There was a time I used to watch TV shows that I thought were cool, and then I had no one to talk to about it, because no one else was watching. So then I started watching things I knew had larger fandoms and others thought were interesting. That was good because I had communities and discussions and meta to read. But once I started getting into toxic fandom circles that colored my interest in stuff. I’d watch with the thoughts of the community in my head and get angry at things that I knew people would be talking about, even if I had no issue with it myself. And that grew into wanting shows to go along with what their fans wanted just to have peace at the end of the day. Which, for anyone who’s followed a fandom or show like this knows, is not a great experience for plotlines and writers to deal with. So I stopped watching big shows and went back to what I enjoyed.

Except now I’m back to talking about it to no one! So I started trying to be more active on TVTime but also a lot of the times I don’t care to be in the comments of episodes or shows because my main thing on that app is getting through my backlog and scrolling through memes is counterproductive to watching. So I’m going to keep being mindful about being active there but I’m also going to start talking about what I’m into currently on here. And maybe on Twitch.

I picked up that there are some podcasts or streams that talk about what they’re currently into, and as far as I know I traced it back to GeekBomb on Youtube with their PWRD (playing, watching, reading, doing) series. And I also stumbled across the /now page movement which I am 100% into as well, despite some slight hesitancy about privacy. So I’m going to put that together for this site because I’m one of those people who screenshot any time I’m watching a video anywhere and I can see the dock or start menu of a computer or their bookmarks and scan for things I recognize or things that look interesting. Which I think says a lot about icon and favicon design. But anyway, I’m nosy and I like to know what people’s work and productivity and relax stacks are. So I’m working on that.

It makes sense that not everyone works the same way – because we all know people who are way more active on one social site than another – and that’s only because how our brains are wired differently. So I like to see how people tick and it’s been helpful, especially when finding that a lot of people who work the same way I do, also relax the same way. Although sometimes people are different, or something doesn’t work for my needs and that’s also fine. Every now and then though, I find a gem that blows my mind and I add that to my stack as well.

It’s all in the name of progress and improvement!
